THE SALT ROAD BY E-BIKE: A RIDE AT HIGH ALTITUDE!

Le Carsene del Marguareis: a day cycling from the Rocca dell'Abisso to the Colle dei Signori

The Salt Road is one of the pearls that Cuneo and its Alps offers to tourists or travelers who want to deal with the intouched, pure and lively nature of the high mountains.

Since many years ago, this street connected mountains to the sea and over it travellers, traders, shepherds, pilgrims had walked for many years to exchange salt from Liguria (it was usefull to preserve meat, fish and olive) with local Piedmont products.

Today it has been renovated and it let everyone living the beauty of this wild territory that changes at every corner, from the alpine pasture to Carsene, to the landscape that bit by bit becomes maritime. The street can be tracked only in summer during the opening period and by a gravel road it carry out from Colle di Tenda to many small cities of the Liguria and Costa azzurra; the itinerary for the more daring people is from Limone Piemonte to Ventimiglia, but the excursion from Colle di Tenda to Rifugio Don Barbera next to Colle dei Signori is truly affordable for everyone: young and old.

Starting from Chalet delle Marmotte at 1800m of altitude over the Colle di Tenda we follow the Italian- French borderline, riding along the path around 2000m of altitude with sweet hill and easy slopes until the Rifugio Don Barbera, along a beautiful road built during the Wars but never used for military purpose, immersed in breathtaking view of the southern Alps, pinewoods of larch and vegetation that combines alpine trees with maritime species.
